Why it matters

This week moved the registry closer to having no ts-morph dependency at all, which means installing @shadcn/registry no longer drags in ts-morph and a bundled TypeScript. The CLI also got a fix for a Windows crash under pnpm dlx, and the directory gained new community registries plus a user-facing fix for files starting with a UTF-8 byte order mark. Together these reduce install weight and startup failures for people using the CLI.

Shadcn 4.21.4 and @shadcn/registry 0.1.3 ship this week. ts-morph is gone from the registry: transformers, import rewriting, the tailwind.config editor and the crawler now run on Babel with the same output. @pmndrs and new community registries are in the directory.

This week shadcn 4.21.4 and @shadcn/registry 0.1.3 shipped, removing the ts-morph dependency from the registry. The file transformers, import rewriting in update-files, the file-import crawler and the tailwind.config editor now run on Babel and produce the same output, so installing @shadcn/registry no longer pulls in ts-morph and its bundled TypeScript. The CLI also got a fix for ERR_REQUIRE_CYCLE_MODULE when running with pnpm dlx on Windows, and accepts components.json and package.json files that start with a UTF-8 byte order mark. The registry directory gained @pmndrs and new community registries such as @keyframery and @agentfaces.

Why it matters

The registry engine extraction makes shadcn's core infrastructure reusable by other projects, while the community registries continue to expand the ecosystem with specialized components. These changes strengthen shadcn's foundation as a platform for component systems.

Post for LinkedIn

Shadcn/ui v4.21.1 is out. The registry engine is now extracted as @shadcn/registry, a reusable package that powers the CLI and can be integrated into other projects. The registry directory now ranks entries by health and catalog size. Plus updates to starter templates, chat components, and three new community registries.
