What they shipped

  • From its YC profile: Developers don't run one coding agent anymore. They run fleets of them — for hours, sometimes days — across laptops, servers, and sandboxes. Keeping track of that work is the new bottleneck: which agent is blocked, which one finished, which terminal is it in, and why did everything die when the laptop closed. Herdr is the open-source home for that work. A background server owns the agents' terminal sessions on each machine, so the work survives disconnects, closed lids, and dropped SSH. (source)
  • Its own site describes it as: "Herdr is the runtime your coding agents live on. It holds real terminals open on your laptop, your desktop or a box you rent, so the work survives the lid closing — and you can attach again from anything with a keyboard." (source)

Who is behind it

  • Can Celik, Founder/CEO: Founder of herdr, the open runtime for coding agents. Previously built AI-assisted ultrasound technology and led AI teams in fintech. Now I live in the terminal and build tools for people who do too. (source)

Code

  • GitHub organization herdrdev: 2 public repositories, 35650 stars in total, mostly Rust; most starred is herdr (35642 stars, Rust); last push 2026-09-05 (read 2026-09-06). (source)
