What shipped
- Language now has Translate and Format methods, so templates can call site.Language.Translate and range over site.Languages to translate into each language. Pull request #15423
- ImageResource.FrameCount reports the number of frames in an image resource. Pull request #15432
- Rebuilds no longer skip a page when the same file resolves to both the assets and content components, such as content mounted into assets. Pull request #15417
- The project now builds with Go 1.27.2. Pull request #15429
- Module replacements defined in themes are now ignored. Pull request #15426
- The Hugo generator meta tag is now injected as the last item of the head section instead of the first. Pull request #15412
- Terminal program status reporting now covers working, done, idle and error, including the first line of the error message on failure, alongside the existing progress reporting. Pull request #15428
- The PAGE.IsNode warning in jsonify is fixed. Pull request #15421
Why it matters
This week adds translation helpers to the Language object, making it possible to translate strings for any language in a site and to loop over all languages. Image resources expose their frame count, and a rebuild bug is fixed for sites where a file serves as both content and an asset. Module replacements in themes are ignored and the generator tag moved to the end of the head.
Changelog entry
- Add Translate and Format methods to Language Pull request #15423
- Add ImageResource.FrameCount Pull request #15432
- Hugolib: fix rebuild when content is also mounted as assets Pull request #15417
- Upgrade to Go 1.27.2 Pull request #15429
- Modules: ignore module.replacements defined in themes Pull request #15426
- Transform/metainject: inject Hugo generator tag last in head Pull request #15412
- Add basic support for OSC 7501 program status Pull request #15428
- Fix PAGE.IsNode warning in jsonify Pull request #15421

What shipped
- V0.167.0 released with relative partial references, slug support for branch pages, and security hardening fixes. Release
- ESBuild and Sass import fallbacks confined to allowed read paths for improved security. Pull request #15399
- Snap package base updated to core26 (Ubuntu 26.04 LTS). Pull request #15406
- Test coverage extended to 386 architecture on Linux. Pull request #15404
- Tests now run on GOARCH 386. Pull request #15409
Why it matters
V0.167.0 introduces relative partial references for easier self-contained partial organization and security improvements that restrict import paths. The addition of 386 architecture testing ensures broader platform compatibility.
Changelog entry
- Add relative partial references: partial names starting with./ or../ resolve relative to the calling partial's directory Release
- Add slug support for branch pages Release
- Confine ESBuild's fallback resolver to allowed read paths Pull request #15399
- Confine Sass import fallbacks to allowed read paths Pull request #15399
- Update Snap package base to core26 (Ubuntu 26.04 LTS) Pull request #15406
- Add 386 architecture testing on Linux Pull request #15404
Hugo v0.167.0 is out. Relative partial references, slug support for branch pages, and security hardening fixes included.
Hugo v0.167.0 ships with relative partial references—partials can now be resolved relative to their calling location using./ or../ prefixes. Also in this release: slug support for branch pages and security hardening that confines import fallbacks to allowed read paths.

What shipped
- Hugo can now build without requiring a config file. Pull request #15394
- Section, taxonomy, and term pages now support slug configuration. Pull request #15383
- Partials can now use relative paths starting with./ or../ to reference other partials in the same directory structure. Pull request #15376
- New build.cleanDestinationDir config with keepFiles and keepDirs glob patterns to control what gets preserved during clean builds. Pull request #15377
- Appending empty slices to typed slices now preserves the destination type instead of widening to []any. Pull request #15392
- Smart crop image processing now works correctly with rotated images. Pull request #15371
- Number comparisons in set operations and where filters now use exact comparison instead of float64 conversion, fixing precision issues for large integers. Pull request #15363
- BOM trimming has been expanded and consolidated across more contexts. Pull request #15364
- User-defined table render hooks are now preferred over embedded hooks. Pull request #15391
- Symlinked mount roots are now allowed in the main project. Pull request #15368
Why it matters
This week adds significant workflow improvements: building without config files and relative partial paths make project setup more flexible. New slug support and cleaner build configuration give developers better control over site generation. Critical fixes for number precision and image processing ensure correctness in data handling and asset generation.

- Add slug support for section, taxonomy and term pages Pull request #15383
- Support relative partial paths from within partials Pull request #15376
- Add build.cleanDestinationDir config with keepFiles and keepDirs patterns Pull request #15377
- Preserve slice type when appending an empty slice Pull request #15392
- Fix smart crop with image rotation Pull request #15371
- Use exact number comparison in set operations and where filters Pull request #15363
- Expand and consolidate BOM trimming Pull request #15364
- Prefer user table render hook over embedded Pull request #15391
- Change default baseUrl to https://example.org/ Pull request #15384
- Escape heading IDs in table of contents HTML, drop symlinks in virtual ancestor dirs, cache symlink checks Pull request #15370
- Allow symlinked mount roots in the main project Pull request #15368
Hugo now supports building without a config file, relative partial paths, slugs for section/taxonomy/term pages, and improved build cleanup configuration with glob patterns.
This week's Hugo updates focus on flexibility and correctness. Build without config files, use relative paths in partials, add slugs to taxonomy pages, and control what gets cleaned during builds with glob patterns. Number comparisons are now exact instead of float64-based, fixing precision issues for large integers. Smart crop works correctly with rotated images.
